Australian Red Claws make great aquarium additions to existing freshwater tanks.  Red Claws are just another type of crayfish but grown in freshwater. What makes them so fantastic is the fact that they can grow to be larger than a Florida Spiny Lobster. This is the reason the United States has dubbed them freshwater lobsters.

Australian Red Claws were discovered in the land "down under". What makes them so special is there size and color. Red claws can grow up to 12 inches in one year. A 12 inch Red Claw can weight up to 12 to 16 ounces within that year if properly cared for. With there color distinction separates them from all other crayfish. Males are blue with red on the tip of there claws and females are completely blue. Given the right water temperature 72 to 85 degrees they can also breed 2 to 3 times a year. Anything less than 60 degrees you have the potential to lose your critter. Every time a Red Claw becomes berried they can drop 100 to 1,000 eggs. Red Claws are easy going and are none aggressive additions to any freshwater aquarium if introduced properly. Feeding them is as simple as feeding your dog. Since they are bottom dwelling scavengers they eat all types of fish foods that sink, shrimp pellets, live aquatic plants and almost any type of vegetable that will fall to the bottom of the tank.
